The Invasion Of Stink Bugs!

The stink bugs are back. This summer was so hot we all thought that the stink bugs went away or cooked to death. I hate these little suckers. We had quite a few of them last fall in Natural Bridge VA. They traveled with us all winter to Maryland and Tennessee.  They don't bite, sting or get into your food, they are just so annoying and they fly. Here is what I learned about these nasty little creatures: 

They are not a native species, they are originally from the Far East — China, Korea and Japan.

They were first found in Allentown, Pa. What probably happened was that they came in a cargo ship that came to either Baltimore or New York. The cargo was then unloaded onto a truck that drove to Allentown.


Over the past several years, the bugs have spread in all directions. They have been reported in Virginia, West Virginia, New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania, and have hitchhiked to places as far away as Oregon. One of the reasons there seems to be so many is that because they are not native and do not have any natural enemies.

TC has spent the day spraying all around the slide out and up  under the awnings. No one knows of anything that will keep them away. We keep moth balls underneath (our motor home basement)  to keep mice away, I don't know if it will work for the bugs. I was cooking dinner last night and put on my pot holder and and wouldn't you know it, there was a stink bug inside. These little bugs are going to drive me insane!

He is thinking ....."how can we take over the world"!

One of the "workampers" told me not to smash them, the odor they leave will attract more bugs. We are suppose to put them in a bottle of soapy water. Gross don't you think? Anybody out there have any ideas?
