They are not a native species, they are originally from the Far East — China, Korea and Japan.
They were first found in Allentown, Pa. What probably happened was that they came in a cargo ship that came to either Baltimore or New York. The cargo was then unloaded onto a truck that drove to Allentown.
Over the past several years, the bugs have spread in all directions. They have been reported in Virginia, West Virginia, New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania, and have hitchhiked to places as far away as Oregon. One of the reasons there seems to be so many is that because they are not native and do not have any natural enemies.

He is thinking ....."how can we take over the world"! |
One of the "workampers" told me not to smash them, the odor they leave will attract more bugs. We are suppose to put them in a bottle of soapy water. Gross don't you think? Anybody out there have any ideas?

We have stink bugs in Indiana, but they are more gray than the ones in your pictures. They do have a very odd smell when squashed.
nasty litte buggers..!!no ideas on how to keep them away..?
I have only encountered them a few times....never squished any though. I have no idea how to get rid of them. They are a bit ugly. Good luck!

They smell horrendous when harassed. I know God created them for a reason, but I just can't figure out what. Maybe to remind us that we don't always have the answer for everything. :-)
