The Memorial Illumination

This is the last weekend the campground is open. We have a few campers camping with us to visit the Antietam National Battlefield.

23,000 Candles ---

On Saturday evening December 4, 2010, Antietam National Battlefield, in cooperation with the American Business Women's Association, will host the Annual Antietam National Battlefield Memorial Illumination in honor of those soldiers who fell during the Battle of Antietam. The driving tour through the park is approximately 5 miles long. Vehicles are to use parking lights only, to the extent technology permits this, and continue through the event without stopping. People on foot are highly discouraged from walking the tour route.

One for Each Soldier Killed, Wounded or Missing at the Battle of Antietam

This is a very exciting event and I can't wait to visit. The pictures above are from the internet. I hope to take some pictures of my own.

That is really great. I had never heard of it, but it looks beautiful.

What a moving experience that will be. I am always brought to tears when viewing the Vietnam Wall in Washington, and I believe I would have the same reaction at Antietam. :( Such massive sacrificies at both locations.
