Happy Birthday Robin!

Today is Robin's (my sister) birthday, we celebrated last night.

Yesterday we went to the Antietam Battlefield and did the driving tour. Our favorite part of the tour was the "Burnside Bridge". It was another beautiful day and a great day for the driving tour. Ryan had just learned this battle in history last year and explained how difficult it was for the soldiers cross the bridge because they could not see over the hill. Ryan was like our own personal tour guide.
Antietam National Battlefield is a National Park Service protected area along Antietam Creek in Sharpsburg, Maryland which commemorates the American Civil War Battle of Antietam that occurred on September 17, 1862. The area, situated on fields among the Appalachian foothills near the Potomac River, features the battlefield site and visitor center, a national military cemetery and a field hospital museum. Today, over 330,000 people visit the park each year.

After going on the driving tour we did some shopping for Robin's birthday dinner and party. We came home and put everything away and had a nice lunch. After lunch we went to the C & O canal. I talked about the C & O Canal in an earlier post. After we came back from the C & O Canal, Ryan, Robin and I went on another canoe trip.

The campground was starting to fill up for the holiday weekend. We had a magic show for the children and Ryan was asked to be a helper for one of the tricks.
My little vacation with family is over, it's back to work today. What a great time and I have a wonderful family. Today the crazy holiday weekend begins..........

That cake looks delicious!! Happy Birthday Robin!! One of the best vacations we ever took (our son was just about Ryan's age) was through the Civil War battlefields. One of those, of course, was Antietam. When you said you all had your own personal tour guide it reminded me so much of that trip. Our son, Stephen, was our tour guide. He is still, to this day, a Civil War history buff.
Glad you had fun with your family and it looks like they had a great time also.
Now on to the wild and busy weekend. Good luck in your campground this weekend. Hope all goes well.
