It's A Spring Thing!

I’ve haven’t been blogging or being on the Internet that much for the last week or two.

The weather has been wonderful. When I’m not working, I love to spend as much time outside as I can.

We are having record breaking temperatures lately. Oh my goodness, it’s only March! The temperatures during the day, this past week have been in the 70’s. I’m almost frightened does this mean global warming is really here?

I do love this warm weather.

Everything is blooming and growing like crazy.

When I do get some time off, Jodie and I and go out for a long walk with our camera.

It has been a very crazy week for me and I have a lot on my mind (sad things, strange things and good things or the good the bad and the ugly). Actually it was bad news, strange news and great news.

What else can I say?

It is what it is and life goes on.....

Isn't life great....

Taking Jodie out for a walk and seeing all of these wonderful things makes me feel better.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

It has been a very busy week. I’ve working at the mall and here at the campground to get ready for our opening day on Friday the 23rd!

The weather has been wonderful. We did get our summer clothes out and put the winter stuff away. We figure if its get cold it will only last a day or two.

Today is Saint Patrick’s Day and I have to work at the mall, so we will have our corned beef, cabbage and potato dinner on Sunday.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Saint Patrick’s Day.

Saint Patrick’s Day is a very special day for me.

I worked at the Chestertown Pharmacy for quite a few years. The owner of the pharmacy was born on March the 17th. We always celebrated his birthday and had a wonderful time on Saint Patrick’s Day.

Doc and Mr. Charlie, I will never forget you…….

The weather here has been great. Spring has sprung very early, and the pollen is really taking a toll on most of us. We had the windows open yesterday and last night and I loved it. Today after much sneezing and wheezing, we had to close the windows and turn on the AC.

I hate to do close everything up, but we had to. Maybe after a rain shower or two the pollen will calm down a bit.

Today is going to be a record breaker, the temperature soaring it the mid 80’s. WOW 85 degrees in March. I’m loving it.

We are thinking about getting our summer clothes out and putting the winter ones away. I hope it’s not too early. I looked at the weather for the next 8 days and the temperature is going to be in the mid 70’s. I guess if we get some colder weather, we will just have grin and bear it.

I love these Mini Daffodils, they are blooming all over the campground.

We have been busy here at the campground getting ready to open in a week. I love this place and I’m so excited about the 2012 season.

Spring Forward!

I love daylight savings time. It was wonderful to come home from work and see that TC had our deck all set up. We sat outside and enjoyed a glass of wine.

Today was a great day, the sun was out and it was warm enough to sit outside without a coat or jacket and it was light out until about 7:30pm! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT!

I did have to work today at the mall and I had a very busy day. Busy days make the day go by so fast.

Before going to work, I put some ingredients in the crock pot so we would have some yummy chicken tortellini soup. Chicken tortellini soup and some homemade bread made a great dinner.

I’ve been so busy, working at the mall and helping getting the campground ready for opening day.

When I come home from work after a busy day, I'm thinking, (A) do I blog, (B) do I look at Facebook or (C) do I go out and enjoy the rest of the day. I always choose, (C)!

By the way, did I mention that I love daylight savings time?

A Frustrating Day!

....that turned out pretty good.

I had today off and it was a beautiful day. I did some cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping and other chores. After doing all of the chores, Jodie and I went to the C & O Canal to do some walking. We had a great walk.

I’m frustrated because I’m trying to do something on the computer and can’t seem to figure out what I’m doing wrong. After many attempts, I gave up and had a glass of wine. WOW, I feel so much better now……

Last night after coming home from work this is what I saw…..

Now how can I stay in a bad mood when seeing these girls all snuggled up together and getting along?

Isn’t life great……

I love helping out our local Humane Society. The Humane Society of Washington County right here in Hagerstown is where we found our cat, Lily.

This past weekend when I helped my daughter, Michelle move, she had lots of towels, old blankets, some dog beds and other items that can be used for bedding.

I called the Humane Society and asked them if they could use these things and they were so happy to receive them. The only reason I don’t go to the animal shelter more often, is that I want to save all of the cats and dogs that they have there. I literally have to go in there pretending I have on blinders. I can’t even look at the animals up for adoption on their web site. Sniff sniff and a few tears…..

It is a cold blustery day with a few snow showers. Hurry up spring!

Only 22 More Days!

March 23rd is our opening day here at the The Hagerstown KOA. I’m so excited! I had off from the mall today and went up to the camp store and helped Sherri (our office manager) get organized and put things away. We still have a way to go to get this store in tip top shape. Sherri and I work well together and we are great friends.

The weather was pretty nice, warm, sunny but a little bit windy. Jodie and I went out for a nice walk and we saw some signs of spring.

Pretty soon we will all be talking about the beautiful spring days and how much we all enjoy being outside…….

As for now, I’m dreaming about how much fun we will all have here at the campground, sitting outside by the campfire, canoeing, swimming, fishing, cooking on the grill and enjoying life here in Paradise…..

My Daughter May Outgrow My Lap,

…….but she will never outgrow my heart.

I took this past weekend off to go to Bowie MD and help my daughter, Michelle move. She moved from Bowie MD to College Park MD to be closer to her job.

I had a nice time with Michelle and her beautiful dogs, Chance and Harley. Chance and Harley are labs.

Moving is always such a chore. I don’t like to pack but I love to unpack. I helped her put her kitchen together and get things organized. We also had to go back to the old house and clean it up.

Yesterday was another beautiful warm spring like day. After coming home, I made an Italian casserole for dinner. After dinner, Jodie and I went outside to take these sunset pictures and take a walk.

It’s back to work today…….

Springtime is the land awakening…

……..The March winds are the morning yawn.

March is just a few days away.

Yesterday we had a little “Spring Tease”, It was sunny, warm and gorgeous. After spending the morning doing laundry, cleaning and everything that I had to get done, Jodie and I went to the C & O Canal. We walked for three and a half miles. We had the camera and snapped some pictures.

Walking sure did feel good. I’ve been having problems with my knee. I have degenerative arthritis. I have had two cortisone injections in my left knee so far. My doctor tells me, that I can only have three injections. It seems to me, the more I walk and exercise, the better my knee feels.

I’ve been using my pedometer for the past week, so I can record how many steps I’m walking a day. This pedometer also records how many miles I walk and how many calories I burn. Yesterday was the first day I reached over nine thousand steps. I’m suppose to be walking ten thousand steps a day. WOW, that’s going to be a hard thing to do, especially each and every day. Reaching nine thousand steps required walking over three miles on the trail. Maybe when spring is here to stay, walking that many steps won’t be that hard to do.

Writers Block!

I’ve been so busy working and doing things, I'm finding it hard to find something worthwhile to write about.

Today before going to work, I had to go to the motor vehicle administration to change my drivers license from South Dakota to a Maryland license. A trip to the MVA is never something to look forward to.

We used Sioux Falls, South Dakota as our mailing address while we were travelling the USA and while living in Mexico.

We now have the tow car (our Subaru Baja) and the new Buick registered in Maryland. We will deal with our motor home (a Newmar Dutch Star) at a later date. We will be still living in the motor home for quite some time, so for now we are still full-timers!

It very easy to move out of a permanent home into a motor home, but doing the opposite seems to be a tad bit harder. When you move into a motor home, all of the furniture is there. When you move into a home or an apartment you can’t take that furniture with you. YIKES, it will be awhile until we can make that move.

Meanwhile, I’ve been working and enjoying the freedom of being a two car family. This is a new freedom for us, we have been a one car family for about 9 years!

The weather has been wonderful and I have the next few days off to enjoy it. Jodie and I will be out and about walking, and taking some pictures.

We have been very busy here at the The Hagerstown KOA getting for the 2012 season. I can't wait! This campground is the best! We absolutely love living here.

We Are Now A 2 Car Family!

We have been travelling and living in our motor home for over 8 years. We have also been sharing 1 car for all of these years. I always felt so bad taking the only car that we have to work, and leave TC here without a car. When I worked during the holidays and didn’t get home sometimes until after midnight, it worried me that TC didn’t have any transportation. What if I broke down, who would come and save me?

We love our Subaru Baja, it has been the best little tow car.

I wanted a sedan. The Subaru Baja doesn't have a trunk and I wanted a car with a trunk.

The other day we went to look for a 2nd car and ended up coming home with a 2005 Buick Century.
So far this car is perfect for shopping and going back and forth to work. I love the car, but hate having a car payment! I have to go and get my drivesr license changed from a SD license to a MD drivers license sometime this week.

My daughter tells me that I bought a grand mom car or an old lady car, something like that.

After 8 wonderful years of travelling and living in our motor home, our full-time RV living life style is slowly coming to an end. We found a little peace of Heaven right here in Maryland and will be looking for a more permanent home sometime in the near future.

It has been a great ride so far………

Happy Valentine's Day!

There is not much going on here in the Trailerhood. We have had some really cold weather and a little dusting of snow. The past few days the wind howled and howled. It is very scary living in a motor home when the wind is blowing that hard.

I worked this Valentine’s day . It wasn't that busy at the mall, people were out having dinner or spending a romantic evening at home. I’m off tomorrow and I will fix a wonderful Valentine’s Day dinner.

I asked TC what he would like to have for Valentine’s Day and he replied by saying , “everyday is Valentine’s day with you sweetheart”.

That could be the sweetest thing I ever heard, or he is trying to get out of buying me a gift. I’ll vote for the sweetest thing I ever heard (what do you think)? Isn't love the strangest thing?

This is “Buddy” my moms dog. Buddy loves to dress up for all of the holidays.

I hope everyone has a great Valentine’s Day. Everyday is an awesome day for me.......

No Day Is So Bad It Can't Be Fixed…….

I had the day off today and it was a cold dreary day. The delightful weatherman is calling for some snow overnight. We are right on the border line as to how much snow we will be getting. It could be one inch or it could be 5 inches. I’m betting on an inch or less. I hope if it does snow the worst of it will be over with by morning before going to work. I hate going to work while it is snowing and not knowing how much snow I’ll have to drive in to get home.

I did some chores like cleaning and laundry on my day off (very boring). Jodie and I did go out for a walk, it was a little to cool for a nice long walk, but we did walk for about an hour. After walking we decided to rest.

now that's what I'm talking about.......

I’m not much of a napping person, but Jodie and Lily sure do love their napping time. While the girls are napping I’m writing this post and getting ready to think about what to cook for dinner. Hmm, what to do with leftover chicken?

It looks like a good night to read, go to bed early and get a good night rest.

It certainly wasn't an exciting day, but spring will soon be here. I can't wait for some nice hot weather.

Jodie Loves To Read…….

……her “pee mail” when we go out for a walk.

Today was my day off and it was a glorious warm sunny day! After doing the shopping, laundry, cooking and cleaning, Jodie and I hopped into the car and drove the the C & O Canal to do some walking. There were quite a few people with their four legged friends walking and enjoying this beautiful day.

Jodie has to smell and sniff for a few minutes before getting down to some serious walking. We always say that she is reading her “pee mail”. It is funny how dogs love to smell where other dogs have been.

After much reading and sniffing we both had a nice long walk.

I love it when my days off are this wonderful!

Customer Service!

Working in the retail business can be a hard job sometimes. It seems no matter how hard you try to please customers not all of them are happy with you.

I had a group of people in today wanting to buy window treatments for a house that they just moved into. The gentleman warned me that he was not happy shopping for the window treatments (I should have taken that as warning not to wait on him). I smiled and offered to help them. They seemed like nice people, they were joking around and we had some laughs together.

I spent over 2 hours with them. They had some different size windows and we did not have all of the sizes and colors that they liked in the store. I went to JCP.com so I could order these and have them shipped to them. I placed the order and a few of the items that they wanted were no longer available.

This very humorous friendly gentleman suddenly turned into a very nasty man and asked to speak to my manager. I called my supervisor so he could complain to her. He told her that I had an attitude of a 5 year old. I should have taken that as a complement, because 5 year old children are beautiful, nice, fun loving, and innocent people. I did not take it as a complement, because he didn’t mean it as that. It hurt me very much!

I do know good customer service, I don't live in a cave. I do go out and shop and dine and I always recognize great customer service.

I really try to give the best customer service that I can. I’ve been trained in customer service all of my life.

I will shake this off and go back out again to face the retail world. I will smile and give it my best……….

We did get some snow and rain today. So far the roads are very passable.

Shadow? What Shadow?

Yesterday was Groundhog day and that little critter saw his shadow. That means we are going to have 6 more weeks of winter. As I said in past posts, this winter hasn’t been all that bad, so bring it on, you silly groundhog!

This Sunday is the big day for some football! TC is out shopping for snack food. He is buying some stuff to make nachos. I’m cooking some corned beef, cabbage and baby red potatoes for tonight's dinner. We will have enough leftovers to make some yummy Reuben sandwiches for dinner on Super Bowl Sunday. My favorite part of watching the game are the amusing commercials.

The New York Giants and the New England Patriots will be battling it out for the big win. I will be cheering on the New York Giants! They are both great teams and hopefully the game will be an interesting game to watch.

If anyone out there is going to a big Super Bowl party this Sunday, have a great time but please drive safe and sober.

Spring Fever!

This winter sure has been a nice one. The biggest snow fall we had so far was in late October. That snow fall didn’t amount to much. We had a few inches a few weeks ago and we have had a ton of rain. Thank goodness all of this rain hasn’t been snow or we would be digging out of it for weeks.

Today and yesterday the temperature was in the low to mid 60’s. This temperature is a record breaker.

Global warming?

I’ve been working at the mall on these beautiful days, but Jodie and I still have some time to go out walking with the camera.

We still have a while to go before the “real” spring gets here. I hope Mother Nature will continue be kind to us for the remainder of winter.

I don’t know if anyone out there has noticed that JC Penney’s is changing their prices (not to mention that crazy screaming commercial).

We are changing the price of our merchandise to an everyday low so you can shop on your own time and not have to wait for coupons, door busters or sales. So far this has been very successful! Most of our customers are happy for the change.

It is starting to look like summer in the store with swimsuits, patio furniture, sunglasses, flip flops and more.

I saw people shopping in shorts and flip flops today!

Sunday Clears Away The Rust Of The Whole Week…

……I love Sundays even when I have to work.

I worked at the mall today and had a great day working with my co-workers.
The mall wasn’t as busy as most Sundays.

It was a sunny day but a cold one. The wind is still blowing hard and drying up all of the mud from the hard rains and snow.

Before going to work we put a pork tenderloin roast marinated with garlic and rosemary into the crock pot. This pork tenderloin was marinated for a day.

We have one of those crock pots with the built in meat thermometer (The Hamilton Beach Set n' Forget) I love this crock pot. I just set the crockpot the the right temperature and it cooks the meat until it reaches that temperature and switches to the warm setting. Of course I bought this crockpot at JC Penney’s.

After coming home from work I made some mashed potatoes with sour cream and chives and some Bavarian Style Sauerkraut with Caraway Seeds.

We enjoyed this wonderful Sunday dinner.

After dinner we watched the Screen Actors Guild Awards. I love watching all of the awards shows.

The movie “The Help” won for best movie. I read the book and loved it. I’m having trouble getting into my next book. Sometimes you need a few days to go from one book to another.

Mother Nature Is Amazing!

After all of that rain, Mother Nature is providing us with some strong gusty winds to dry everything up. It sure gets muddy here with all of that rain and melting snow. This wind has been screaming at us all day.

TC always says that the wind is nature's way to do some necessary pruning. A lot of pruning is going on today.

Jodie and I took the camera and went out for a walk. Jodie has much fun chasing the geese back into the creek. Those geese sure do squawk when Jodie runs them off!

After our big adventure, Jodie had to come back and get a shower. She is all showered, dried and brushed. She has to be clean and smell like a clean dog, not the muddy creek to sleep in our house!

Whew, I'm exhausted,.....

TC and I were going to meet up with some friends for pizza tonight, but TC is a little bit under the weather, so we had to cancel. I think he has some kind of a stomach flu or bug. After a good night sleep, he should back to his old self!

We will stay home and I will make him some soup.

Pizza sure sounds good though……

Today’s Forecast Calls For A Dreary, Rainy Day!

I have off today and it’s raining cats and dogs!

It looks like a great day to read, cook and nap. I finished reading the book “The Help” by Kathryn Stockett. It was a wonderful read and I highly recommend it.

We will be renting the movie, I think TC would enjoy watching it.

I’m getting ready to read “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”. This is the first of a trilogy of novels by the late Swedish writer Stieg Larsson. It always takes me a while to get into a new book after reading one that was as good as The Help. Today looks like a good day to get started.

If anyone out there has any great books or movies to recommend, please let me know. I’m not working as many hours as I did during the holidays and I have some time to read and watch good movies.

Now that football is over we have started to watch American Idol. We always enjoy watching the auditions. Some of the singers are so talented and some of them can’t carry a tune in a bucket (I can’t carry a tune in a bucket with a lid on it).

In 56 days the Hagerstown KOA will open for the 2012 season. I'm so excited. I love living and working here. This place is heaven on earth.

From Diamonds to Draperies

I’m back in the drapery department. Working in the fine jewelry department was fun for the holidays. Both departments are great departments to work in and they are very different. The jewelry department is downstairs and I liked being able to see outside to check on the weather.

I think that business in the drapery department will be prosperous during the winter and spring months. The holidays are over and people will be wanting to spring clean and update their window treatments.

Whether I’m in diamonds or draperies life is wonderful.

All Good Things Must Come To An End!

We did get our share of snow, sleet and freezing rain this week. In this neck of the woods, it wasn’t that bad. We are still having a very mild winter compared to most of them.

I went to see mom today and had a great afternoon. Mom, Robin (my sister) and I went to the mall and did some window shopping.

After going back to moms house we had a wonderful lunch.

Mom rearranged her bedroom so the jewelry armoire would fit. I love the look of her bedroom and the armoire looks great. (the jewelry armoire was a birthday gift for mom).

I love spending time with my mom and sister.

Today was the big football day. The Baltimore Ravens played the New England Patriots. Both teams played a good game but the Ravens lost 20 to 23. This lost was a real bummer to TC and all of the Ravens fans. TC is a real sad puppy.

He is not that sad, he says that the Ravens played a great game, it is just too bad they won’t be playing in the super bowl.

What can I say, life goes on………

It’s been a bit cold out for the pass few days. We still haven’t had any snow to speak of, but I think we are to get some ice and snow this weekend. My working hours at the mall have gone from 40-50 hours a week to only 3 or 4 days a week totaling only 20-30 hours a week.

I’ve been spending time at home on my days off getting cupboards and cabinets organized, cleaning and doing some laundry.

Jodie and I are still doing some walking. Jodie doesn’t mind the cold, but she hates the wind.

Jodie and Lily love to nap on cold days............

We have had some nasty wind storms lately. I woke up the other morning to find some very large branches all over the place, not to mention some small trees. It’s scary to hear them hit the motor home late at night while trying to sleep.

This coming weekend is another big weekend for football. Everyone is excited to see what happens when the Baltimore Ravens play the New England Patriots. Hopefully it will be an exciting game and the Ravens will win.

I really don’t want to be around TC if the Ravens lose, he will be a sad puppy.

Happy Birthday To A Very Special Lady!

Today is my moms birthday. I’m not able to spend the day with her, but I’m making plans to go for a visit next week.

We had a great sale at the mall this week and I found the perfect birthday present for her.

Gerry, my future brother in-law came up today to pick it up and delivered to mom.

It’s nice to have our very own delivery person in the family. Thanks Gerry!

This jewelry armoire is antique walnut and will hold lots of stuff.

I can’t wait to see how it looks in her room.

Happy birthday mom, you are the best! We are so blessed to have you for a mom.

Football And The Golden Globe Awards!

Yesterday after work, I came home to very tense football game. The Baltimore Ravens played the Houston Texans and won the game 20 – 13. TC is happy that the Ravens won, but said they didn’t play all that well. Next weekend the Ravens play the The New England Patriots. TC said that the Ravens better get their game face on or else they are history!

After all of the football drama I made taco salads and we got ready to watch the Golden Globe Awards. Watching an award show is an entertaining way to spend the evening.

The freezing cold temperatures are still hanging around, but so far, no snow. The local ski resorts are happy to finally have some cold weather for snow making. It’s very unusual not to have snow in this part of the world this time of year.

In 65 days the campground will open for the 2012 season. I’m so looking forward the 2012 camping season, springtime and some “sitting out by the campfire weather”.

Tons Of Rain, Wind…..

…. a little bit of wet snow and some flooding.

The weather has been so very unusual weather this winter. The ski resorts in this area are having trouble making snow becouse of the warm temperatures.

TC drove around the campground yesterday in his golf cart picking up branches and sticks and making sure the campground is good shape.

I woke up this morning and looked out the window, wow there are branches and sticks all over the place and the creek is up to the road.

The wind howled all night long and it poured down rain.

Last night when we went to bed it was in the mid 50’s, this morning it is 28 degrees. The weather man is calling for snow showers and high winds today. The high today is only going to get into the mid 30’s.

I’m still working long, strange hours at the mall. I’ve been working in a different department this past week. Sometimes I have to go in at 6 am. I’m not much of a morning person, but somehow I manage to go in at this

ungodly hour with a smile on my face.

In a few weeks, my schedule will be back to normal.

All Is Not Happy In The Work Place!

Things are not always happy in the work place. Working in the retail business sometimes can be a bit dramatic.

I have been working in a different department this past week, meeting new people each and every day. I love meeting people. Everyone has has a story to tell, some of the stories I hear about are not happy stories.

When I hear sad stories from my co-workers it makes me sad, but nevertheless, it makes me feel so blessed to be me.

I have had a great life so far and I thank my parents for my life. I have had the best childhood. I can’t imagine the life some of my co-workers tell me about.

A Walk On The C & O Canal,

Today was another nice day. It was not quite as warm as yesterday and the day before , but the sun was out and it was not freezing cold.

Jodie and I thought it would be a great afternoon to go walking. We both jumped in the car and drove a few minutes to the C & O Canal.

The C & O Canal National Park is right here in Willamsport MD. This park is a great place to walk, ride bikes, jog, go fishing, horseback riding or just having a pleasant afternoon.

The parking lot was full. People like me, were just wanting to get outside and enjoy nature.

Jodie and I walked for an hour and a half. We will both sleep well tonight.

After all of that walking, we came home for an evening of watching the NFL football playoffs and eating yummy leftover chicken noodle soup and toasty rolls.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are playing the the Denver Broncos. Being a Baltimore Ravens fan, we want the Squeelers, oops, I mean Steelers to lose.

I have to get up bright and early with the chickens first thing in the morning and go to work.

Another Beautiful Day In January!

I can't believe this spring like weather that we are having. I would be a happy camper if we had this weather for the rest of the winter. I know that we won't, but I'm taking this spring like weather and enjoying every second of it. It is twenty some degrees above the normal temp.

I hear all kinds of rumors about having a huge snow storm on the 20th of January. These people talking about this big snow storm must be reading the Farmers Almanac. I haven't read that book for years. Hopfully that silly Almanac is wrong.

Remember the other day when I told you about it being 11 degrees out?

Today the high was 62 degrees.

Wow, I had the day off and completely enjoyed this beautiful day. I did some cleaning, laundry, and some walking with Jodie. Jodie and I took our camera and captured some pictures.

After all of that cleaning, laundry, and walking, I made some homemade chicken noodle soup and a loaf of French bread.

While the soup was cooking and the bread was baking, I went out and built a campfire.

11 Degrees………..

I had to be at work a 6 am yesterday. It sure was cold leaving that early, 11 degrees. I hated getting into the car that early, it felt like sitting in a giant freezer.

We are still working unusual, exhausting and long hours at the mall.

The campground is quiet, we do get a snowbird once in a while to stay for the night while heading south.

TC is still taking care of the campground, making sure everything is in tip-top shape. He finds things to do like raking leaves, picking up branches and sticks, checking the water lines and picking up trash.

We do have a couple staying in a fifth wheeler for the winter. The gentleman is working in the area.

When I’m not working, I’m watching movies with TC, reading my nook, cooking, cleaning and sleeping. I received a Barns and Noble gift card for Christmas (what a wonderful gift)! and downloaded some great books to read.

I just finished reading the book Still Alice by Lisa Genova. Thanks Leigh and Lisa for telling me about this book, I read it in a day.

I’m now reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett. So far this book looks like a winner.

TC is in charge of picking out the movies, so far, I’ve not seen one to recommend.

Today is going to be another long and busy day at the mall.......

Cheers To A New Year……..

We had a great New Year’s Day! We drove to Fallston MD to celebrate the new year with TC’s family.

TC’s daughter, Leigh has a lovely home and knows how to entertain. The theme of this party was the Baltimore Ravens. They had all of the tailgate party food like hamburger sliders, chicken wings, mac and cheese, pork barbecue, many side dishes and a table full of yummy desserts!

We also had family and football trivia games, door prizes, the Chinese Christmas gift game and a contest for the best decorated Baltimore Ravens hat.

As you can see, the party was a hit. It is always a pleasure to spend time with family.

I hope everyone had a great New Year’s Day and the best year ever!

Summer Hats And Sunglasses!

All of the Christmas trees, bells, garland, little elves and holly are gone.

We are getting ready for some summertime weather! Today we started to place summer hats and sunglasses in the store.

There is no more Christmas music or that Salvation Army bell ringer to listen to. All of the winter stuff is on sale to make room for summertime. It might be summertime in the mall, but not outside.

I don’t miss the music or the holiday decorations, I definitely don’t miss that bell ringer! I do miss Christmastime. When you work retail, Christmas is just zapped from you. You work so hard and so many long hours and get Christmas day off. I loved my Christmas day, but I wish it could have lasted longer.

Soon the New Year will be here, and I’m looking forward to it. In 2 months and 21 days the campground will be open. I love this campground and can’t wait. This season here at the Hagerstown KOA is going to be a great one.

Christmas Past

We had a very nice Christmas. We had Christmas at moms house and everyone had a wonderful time, great food, good wine and lots of laughs. We had some fun Christmas trivia, played the Chinese Christmas gift game, talked about Christmas past and made Christmas memories to share in the future.

The day after Christmas I had to get up bright and early (with the chickens) to go to work at the mall.

All of the shoppers were anxious to spend their gift cards, return gifts that they didn’t care for and shop the after Christmas bargins.

“Hi, I want a 2 carat diamond ring made with 14 carat gold. I only want to spend $150.00, what do you have to show me”?

Yep, you got it, I should have said “go get a box of cracker jacks and see what the prize is”. I did not say that, although it crossed my mind.

I did show him some things, and he ended up buying a silver ring with a cubic zirconia. He seemed very happy with his choice.

Right now the price of gold is $1,131.00 per troy ounce. I don’t know what a troy ounce is, but gold is very expensive.

“Hi, I’ve been standing in line for over 3 minutes, do you know why this store is so busy”?

Good grief, do they know what day this is? Hello, it is the 22nd of December!

“Whew, the parking lot is so packed, I wonder why”?

YEEHAW, Christmas is only 3 days away.

The last minute shoppers are rushing around trying to complete their shopping list.

My days working at the mall have been going by so fast. The other day I went to work, looked at my watch and it was almost time to clock out. Whew, time is flying.

Is it over yet?

In only 90 days the campground will be open for the 2112 season. So far the winter has been very mild. I know it’s just the beginning but I still have high hopes of a calm and peaceful winter.

I will spend the next 90 days thinking of ways to make this KOA campground the place everyone wants to camp. TC and I love it here.

My Running Shoes Are On!

Working at the mall is crazy! I’m wearing tennis shoes. I should have on roller skates. We are all running around like chickens with our heads cut off.

The last minute shoppers are mostly men. I love waiting on them.

The only problem with last minute shopping is that we might be out of the item they were wanting to buy. It is a bit risky to order a product online and be sure to have it by Christmas.

Gee mom, thanks for putting this silly hat on me and taking my picture!

Our store is open from 6:00am until midnight. As you can imagine we are all working some long crazy hours.

Soon, Christmas Day will be here, then we can get ready for the week of returns! Our return shoppers are mosty women.

Only Nine Days Left!

There are only nine days left to shop!

The men have started to shop for Christmas.

I love waiting on the husbands, boyfriends, fathers and all of them. For the most part, men are much easier to get along with. They come in and tell me what they want and how much they can spend.

I show them a few things and they say "I'll take this one, can you wrap it up"?

They smile and thank me and tell me to have a Merry Christmas! WOW, that sure is different than some of our wild shoppers lately.

Kudos to you guys, thanks for being polite shoppers!

The Byron Memorial Park in Williamsport Maryland is all lit up for Christmas. I love to ride by this park on my way home from work.

When I drive though Williamsport I’m able to see many lovely homes all decorated for the Holidays.

We are having spring like weather today. The temperature today is going to be in the low 60’s. It’s going to be a rainy day but at least it’s not snow.

It's So Cold That…..

…..it will make you jingle your way back to bed and get under the covers!

It looks like Mr. Winter decided to come and hang out for a while. When it is this cold (22 degrees) I get in the mood to cook. Today I’m making some hearty homemade beef barley soup, Italian rolls and a tossed salad. TC loves to eat hot steamy soup on a cold day and we both love to have the leftovers.

I’m still having fun meeting all kinds of interesting people with totally different attitudes while working at the mall. Some of them are very happy and nice and some of them should not be allowed to go out in public.

A mother and her little boy walked by the counter and I asked the little boy what he wanted for Christmas. The adorable little boy said “I want a real live baby cow for Christmas”. I asked his mom if they lived on a farm, she told me that they did not.

My co-worker was walking in the mall and saw a lady pushing a man in a wheel chair. She said it looked like they had been in an accident. The lady was bruised up a bit and the man had a broken leg. She looked at them and smiled and said “Merry Christmas”, the lady pushing the wheel chair gave her a dirty look and said “screw you”!

The campground is like a ghost town. I think most of the snowbirds are already south. Every once in a while, we have a camper come in for the night. Some of them are travelling for the holidays.

Nothing Says Holidays….

Now that it’s only two weeks until Christmas, the shoppers are getting a little bit fiesty.

Most of our customers are so nice and patient, but we always have the few that think that they are the only one shopping. I don’t want to rant and rave about the bad shoppers that are about to go postal on us, but sometimes they scare me.

We had some customers the other day that wanted us to fix their watch. Of course they had to wait for a few minutes and they were very unhappy about that.

HELLO, IT’S CHRISTMAS TIME ON A FRIDAY IN A MALL!

I don't understand why we can't all get along......

They were so nasty and mean. I almost feel sorry for people like that. How can anyone be that miserable?

They had to let the whole store know how unhappy they were about waiting for the service that they wanted.

Thankfully, our customers didn’t let them affect their holiday spirit.

Please don't wake me up and tell me your problems .......

Working in the mall today was a good day. All of my customers were so nice and pleasant.

………..Whatever Will Be, Will Be.

What will this winter bring us?

Yesterday I drove to work in the pouring down rain (it was raining cats and dogs)! with temperatures in the low 60’s. Last night after work I drove home in the rain and snow mixed with temperatures in the mid 30’s. I’m not sure but I think this has been one of the wettest years on record.

Does that mean it will be one of the snowiest winters on record?

I think I'm ready for this nasty old man Winter!

Some of our customers starting coming in and saying “whew, the roads sure are getting slick out there”. I hate when they say that. I worried the rest of the night how bad the roads would be for my drive home in the cold and dark! And I also wonder what the hell they are doing out shopping if the roads are so bad.

People always amaze me.

The roads weren’t bad at all. We did have some snow mixed in the rain, but there was no snow on the roads. I made it home safe and sound.

It looks like it’s going to be a long winter…….

It’s Almost Here!

Yep, Christmas day is just 20 days away. People are shopping, baking, decorating and running around like chickens with their heads cut off.

Yikes, I hope I'm ready!

I'm having so much fun working in the jewelry department. This department is down stairs near the the mall entrance. I get to see and hear all of the activates going on in the mall. A few nights ago and local school had their band and chorus performing. They were so young and cute. Listening to children sing and play really puts you into the Christmas sprit.

The campground is officially closed. We do keep some sites open for the snowbirds heading south for the winter (lucky birds). It’s so quiet and peaceful here. The weather is still pretty nice, in the mid 50’s during the day but pretty cold at night. Just last night we sat out by the campfire wearing light weight jackets. I know that soon it will be like a giant freezer out there. Hopefully Mr. Winter will be nice to us and we will have a fairly mild one.

Oh, For The Good Old Days……

…… when people would stop Christmas shopping when they ran out of money.

This is not true these days. People just love to shop and find that bargain. After all of that shopping they will struggle to pay off all of their bills.

Working in retail during the holidays can be fun and stressful at the same time. I’m working in the jewelry department and it is fun to sell all of the beautiful things we have to offer. I’m expected to do much more than sell. I have to open so many credit card accounts, sell so many online orders, ask them to round up for a good cause and sell care plans for the jewelry the customers buy. WOW! Most of the time doing these things can be pretty easy. Sometimes customers get angry if I ask for any of these things and I’m required to ask each and every question at each sale.

Just try to remember when you go out shopping the sales associate may ask you for these things because he or she are required to so. Also, try to remember that most sales associates may be working some heavy and unusual hours. Our store will start opening at 6 in the morning and closing at midnight.

The holidays are a wonderful time of the year, but sometimes people can get a bit out of control. They want to get what they want and they want it now! The lines are long and no one wants to wait in line. HELLO.. it’s Christmas time for goodness sake and everyone and their grandmother are out shopping.

I would love to go to work and see everyone getting along with each other and trying to lend a helping hand once in a while. I would love to go to work and see my co-workers doing the same thing. No drama, no gossip in the work place please!

My dearest Santa, all I want for Christmas is world peace.

Tis The Season To Be Jolly!

I’m doing the happy dance again today, I had the day off!

I went to visit my mom and spent the day with her. I love spending the day with mom! Mom and I decided to go to the festival of wreaths. Man oh man, they had some wonderful wreaths on display.

The Festival of Wreaths is one of the most well-attended holiday events in Carroll County and serves as the official start of the holiday shopping season in downtown Westminster. Each year more than 200 theme wreaths are displayed through this week long silent auction and is the Arts Council’s most significant fundraising event. Visitors experience a wonderland of creativity and generosity as we vote for our favorites in this spectacular event.

After going the the Festival of Wreaths, we went to the mall and did some serious shopping.

Mom and I met Robin, my sister and Gerry, her fiancee for lunch. After lunch, we walked around the mall. Robin and I decided to get our picture taken with the famous “Santa Claus”!

After leaving the mall, mom and I went to the Festival of Trees at the Carroll Hospital Center.

The Festival of Trees featuring a display and silent auction is always held to benefit the Carroll Hospice Center.

A Sunny Day Off!

I’m off today and I'm doing the happy dance. The sun is out, it is in the low 60’s and it is very peaceful, quiet and beautiful. wow, what a day!

We had a group camping with us for the holiday weekend. They are packing up and getting ready to leave. I don’t think we will have many campers this week. The campground will close on December 1st. After the campground closes, we will basically have the place to ourselves. We love the peace and quiet, but we will be anxious to open again next season.

I’m making some homemade turkey noodle soup and some fresh Italian rolls to go with it. I’m also getting caught up on laundry, cleaning and other household chores.

Jodie and I will go on many walks and I might even take a nap. I love having this gorgeous weather on my days off.

Now, this girl knows how to relax!

We will build a toasty campfire, eat a wonderful homemade dinner of soup and bread and have a fabulous evening.

After all of this rest and relaxing, I’ll be ready to face the holiday shopping madness at the mall. Watch out all of you holiday shoppers, I'm ready for you! With a smile on my face!

I Made It Out Alive!

Black Friday is over!

I went to work yesterday at 2:30 in the morning and worked until 2:45 in the afternoon (is that crazy or what)?. When I pulled into the parking lot at the mall, I was so surprised to see that it was packed. Remember this is 2:30 in the morning!

Some of the customers I waited on yesterday told me that they never went to bed. They went to the stores that opened on Thanksgiving night and shopped the night and day away.

We really did have nice shoppers. After watching the news, about all of the problems and trouble some places had on Black Friday, I feel lucky. I guess the so called sport shoppers take this shopping way too serious! People spraying other shoppers with pepper spray, robbing other shoppers and breaking into cars to steal the gifts. What the heck is wrong with these people? Where is the Christmas spirit?

After coming home, TC had a wonderful campfire going and I enjoyed sitting out by the fire relaxing with some yummy red wine.

We ordered a great Italian dinner to be delivered so I had no dishes or cooking to do.

I was in bed and sound asleep by 7:00pm and didn’t wake up until 7:30am this morning.

I’m well rested and ready to tackle the retail holiday shopping world!

I would like to wish a very happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving with my family. I drove to my mom’s house yesterday afternoon after work. I spent a lovely evening with my mom, my sister (Robin) and Gerry, her finance.

Today we all pitched in and made a yummy feast all of our family to eat. And eat we did, I feel like the stuffed bird right now.

I’m so very thankful for my mom, my children, my sister, my brother, Jeff and my sister in-law, Diane and all of my family. I’m so very blessed!

I’m off to go to bed (it is now 7:15 in the evening).

I have to wake up way before the crack of dawn, to go to work. Tomorrow is black Friday and we are all working 12 hour shifts.

I’m sure the day will go by fast. At least I hope it will.

Just to add more to the wonderful holiday sounds that I get to hear each and every day, all day long while working at the mall….

…… yep, you got it, the The Salvation Army Bell Ringer!

I know that they do an important job raising money for a good cause. They stand in front of our door and ring that dang bell all day long!

Now I get to hear about mommy kissing Santa Claus, how Rudolph saved the night with his nose so bright, how to deck the halls with boughs of holly (who does that and what is a bough)? and that dreaded bell ringer.

I did have a good day at work today. The funniest thing that happened to me today was a customer asking me if Black Friday was on a Friday. Go figure……

That’s the sound I’m hearing a lot these days while working at the mall. Cha-Ching, is the sound of the cash register. That register is ringing all day long.

I’m also hearing Christmas music about dreaming of a white Christmas and let it snow, let it snow, let it snow, children whining, parents screaming, noses blowing and nasty customers telling me to kiss their a#s!

Thanksgiving is almost here and I’m looking forward to it. It’s such a peaceful holiday, spending time and having dinner with family and friends.

The dreaded day after thanksgiving is just around the corner. I’m scheduled to work 12 hours on Black Friday. We open at 3:00 am. We have some fantastic door busters and sales first thing in the morning. I’m sure it will be a zoo!

Cold Bare Trees!

My goodness, where have I been? Winter is here. I left work today from the mall at 5:00pm and it was getting dark as I was driving home. I didn’t have to leave for work this morning until 8:00am and it was light out. I’m thankful for the light in the morning.

I took this picture on my way home. This poor little naked tree looks so cold and lonely.

It always amazes me how the trees go from their beautiful glorious fall colors to this pathetic cold desperate state.

The temperatures are dropping and TC is running around trying to get the motor home ready for the cold. He does a great job insulating so we will be warm and cozy for the winter. We wrap the water hose with heat tape, run some insulating strips around the windows and the slide out, and do whatever we can to save the heat that we have.

Soon Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas and the Holidays will be behind us. After all of the fuss, we can relax and settle in for a long winter of watching some great movies, reading books we've been saving for the winter, drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows (can't roast them outside on the campfire when it's this cold) cooking some yummy dinners and enjoying the time we spend together.

Life Isn’t About Waiting For The Storm To Pass…..

it’s about dancing in the rain …

It's a rainy day and I have off from both jobs today. My job here at the campground will be ending very soon, as we will be closing for the season at the end of this month.

I’m already looking forward to opening next season. We will re-open in mid March. I love living and working, at the The Hagerstown KOA, it’s like Heaven on earth!

TC got up early this morning to walk Jodie and allowed me the rare luxury of sleeping in. Oh how I love to relax and sleep in once in a while. Even though I don’t sleep the whole time I’m in bed, it’s nice not to have to jump out of bed and rush around. Sleeping in on a rainy day is a nice treat!

I'm so relaxed,
I feel like a pampered little baby.

I plan to do nothing today but relax, read my book, read my favorite blogs and go out walking in the rain.

Later this evening I’ll make a nice dinner of stuffed pork tenderloin, steamed baby carrots, roasted rosemary red potatoes and some pork gravy to top it all off. I’m working a lot of nights and can’t always cook. TC is usually dining on leftovers or pizza. I love to cook, so tonight will be a fun night.

People are buying and tempers are flying. A few of our co-workers here in the mall can’t seem to get along. This makes it stressful for all of us during this busy holiday season.

It’s bad enough that we get some nasty shoppers, although most of them are very nice. You would think that all of the employees would work a bit harder to make peace in the work place.

Don’t get me wrong, most of the people I work with are extremely wonderful. I really enjoy going to work and spending time with them.

Oh by gosh by golly, it’s almost Christmastime for goodness sake! Let’s all get along and enjoy life. (OK, maybe I sound a little bit like “Mr. Rogers” here, sorry)

Now close your eyes and click your heals together three times and say, ”there’s no place like work, there’s no place like work in the mall during the holiday’s”!

I like to go to work, do my job, make some money, meet interesting people and have a little bit of fun along the way! I usually leave work with a smile on my face.

I don’t need stress in my life and try to avoid it at all times. Life is a gift and I try to treat it that way each and everyday.

A few nights ago we were sitting out by the campfire and I saw this lovely sunset. I grabbed my camera and took these pictures. Sitting out by the campfire and looking at the beautiful sunset will ease all of the stress right out of you!

It Sure Is Quiet Without The Quacks!

It sure is quiet here without the ducks. I miss them greeting me every time I go outside. I know that I did the best thing for the ducks. They will be happy having their own little pond and lots of shelter.

They went to a place called Little Wonders in Clear Spring MD. I will make plans to go and visit with them in a few weeks.

I think this wildlife rescue works on donations only. I plan to take up a collection for them, for rescuing our ducks. They drove here in their own car with their own cages and gently put the ducks in the cages and took them away.

I kind of miss those ducks, they were so much fun to chase and
they ran funny, they waddled.....

Black Friday is just a few days away. All of us working at JC Penney’s will be working a 12 hour shift on the dreaded day. We are allowed to wear nice comfortable tennis shoes as long as they are clean. Thank goodness for small miracles!

I’ve been taking a sneak peak at our sales and door busters for black Friday. We certainly have some good ones!

I’m looking forward to Thanksgiving. It seems to me that Thanksgiving is a forgotten holiday in the retail business. We go from Halloween to Christmas. After Valentine’s Day, it will be summer and swimsuits again! (where did Easter go?)

Getting Too Cold To Sit Out By The Campfire!

Good news, we found a home on a farm with a natural pond for Huey, Dewey, and Louie! See last post. I will miss those little ducky's, cry, cry sniff...sniff :(

I think our evenings of sitting out by the campfire are coming to an end. The evenings are starting to get pretty cold. We did sit out the other night and I took some awesome pictures of the sunset.

The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting longer. I wish I could hibernate like a bear. It would be nice to wake up on a beautiful sunny day and just sleep the winter away.

But if I slept the winter away, I wouldn't be able to work in the mall during the holidays and deal with of all of the crazy mad shoppers. Now who would want to miss out on that?

I’ve been told many times, that I’m not a shopper, I’m a buyer. I think a lot of shoppers are “sport shoppers”. Sport shoppers will burn more gas to find a bargain, that they end up spending more than they save. I guess it’s all in the sport to find that bargain no matter what. Who else would get out of a nice toasty warm bed to go out and shop at 3:00am on a cold blustery day the day after Thanksgiving? Brr...

I write a list, go the the store buy what’s on the list and come home. No sport in that. Good grief, there is a nice bottle of red wine to share with my honey in the warmth of our motor home.

Duck Duck Goose!

You may recall an earlier post about our campground Ducks, Huey, Dewey, and Louie. These ducks were given to us on Mother’s Day this past spring. They have become very tame, I can pick them up.They follow me everywhere. When I come home at night they run out from under the motor home and great me. We were always hoping they would set up house down on the creek. There are 3 geese on the creek and they chase the ducks off. I don’t think these ducks can survive the winter here. Today I’m calling many rescue places to help me with this situation

I will miss these cute little things, but I will not miss the many presents that they leave for me on my doorstep.

Hopefully I will hear back from the many calls that I made this morning.

How Beautifully Leaves Grow Old.....

.........How full of light and color are their last days.

Yesterday, I had the afternoon off. It was a gorgeous day. The sun was out, it was nice and warm and there was a gentle breeze. Jodie and I decided to go out for a long walk. I took my camera and snapped some great pictures.

I love the colors of fall and the crunch of the leaves when I walk on them. Fall is my favorite time of the year. We had a very enjoyable, wonderful walk. That walk was like a mini vacation. Now I'm ready to go back to reality. (just trying to tell myself that and believe it)

Christmas At The Mall!

It's Christmas time at the mall. This past weekend the shoppers came out with their fighting gloves on. We had some great sales and fantastic coupons. We are all getting ready for black Friday. We open at 3:00 am and close at midnight. Is that crazy or what? It will always amaze me how many people will go out to shop at that hour!

I guess it's all up-hill from here.

The weather has been gorgeous. The days are nice, sunny and warm and the nights are just cool enough to sleep well. We are loving the peace and quiet here at the campground.

We do expect a nice size group Thanksgiving weekend. They come every year. They bring their turkey fryers to cook the birds, they cook many of them. The group will meet at the diner for a huge feast.

Pretty soon the busy season will be behind us, then we can settle in for a long cold winter...........

What Happened To Thanksgiving?

Tis the season to be jolly, Fa la la la la, la la la la!

Yep, it's Christmas time at the mall and people are shopping. Not just shopping they are big time shopping. Yesterday (Saturday) was a crazy busy day. I worked in the jewelry department and people were buying like there was no tomorrow.

I love Christmas, but working in retail during the holidays will make you go nuts!

Thanksgiving is a wonderful relaxing holiday, especially when my mom cooks her yummy turkey dinner!

It has slowed down a bit here at the campground. We did have a group in this weekend and a boy scout troop. In 24 days and the campground is closed for the season. During the week it's like we have the place to ourselves. Sometimes the quiet is a good thing.

I've been moved from the drapery department to the fine jewelry department for the holidays. WOW, going from draperies to diamonds.

I think that working in the jewelry department for the holidays will be beneficial to me. I seems to me that more shoppers will shop for jewelry than window treatments for Christmas. I guess time will tell.

Both jobs are commission jobs.

Oh wow, diamonds. I think I would look good in a diamond studded collar.

The store and the mall are all decorated for Christmas, this is going to be a very long holiday season.

Fa la la la la, la la la la........

What A Beautiful Day!

Yesterday was a glorious, beautiful day. I had the day off and went to visit my mom in Westminster MD. I had a wonderful drive. The trees are showing their radiant fall colors and the sky was a picture perfect blue. Man oh man what a great place here on earth! We are so blessed.

Mom and I had a great time shopping at the mall. We met my sister, Robin for lunch. I always have the best time with mom and Robin.

Yesterday evening we were invited to a dinner party. Our hosts were John and Judi, the owners of the campground. John and Judi use to own a restaurant in New Hampshire and they have the diner here at the campground. They are the best cooks!
They served delicious appetizers, Beef Bourguignon, a wonderful salad, potatoes, peas, toasty bread and chocolate moose for dessert. We had so much fun with our friends, eating good food, drinking tasty wine and having interesting conversation.
Yum, we left with full happy tummy's.

It's back to work today and I'm already looking forward to my next days off!

Going Through Withdrawal!

Friday night, Robin, Gerry, Ryan (my sister, her fiancee, and my nephew) and his friend Jake came to to camp with us and go to the haunted house. We were all excited about sitting around the campfire and having a wonderful night. We did go through the haunted house. My sister wasn't planning on going to the haunted house, but I talked into it. I had great fun listening to her scream! The sitting around the campfire plan didn't pan out, it started to rain and it rained heavy all night long.

We woke up Saturday morning to an unusual heavy wet snow fall. The snow flakes were coming down fast and were as big as waffles. Trees were falling on electric lines and causing major problems everywhere. We had a nice breakfast in the diner and my company left. They were anxious to get on the road.
It never snows this time of year!

I went to work at the mall and found out that half the employees called out because of the weather. Needless to say I worked a very long day. After working over 10 hours, I came home to a very dark campground. I found out that we lost electric at 6:00 in the evening on Saturday. Thank God we live in a motor home with a great generator. We had heat, water, TV, (antenna) lights and everything we needed, but we did not have Internet! I was crushed, I could not read my favorite blogs, my email or look at facebook, what was I to do? I'll tell you what I did, I worked. Not only did my co-workers call out because of the bad weather and the slick nasty roads, they also called out because they didn't have electric. Our electric came back on this afternoon. As soon as I got off work, I immediately got out my laptop and got caught up on my blog reading, my emails and of course facebook.

I'm telling you, this withdrawal stuff is tough!

Another Trip To The Big City And Not Felling So Hot!

Yesterday we had another training class in Baltimore City. Driving to Baltimore and back is no picnic. I don't think we have anymore training classes for awhile.

During the meeting, I started to feel like I was coming down with something. My throat started to feel sore and scratchy and my head started to hurt. Low and behold, I woke up with a terrible head cold. I had to call in sick and stay in bed all day. Today was the first time I calleded in sick in many years! I'm drinking a lot of juice and chicken noodle soup. Maybe one day in bed will make this awful thing go away.

Keep Your Head Up!

It's funny how we get so busy in life that we forget to pick our head up and look.

I see people talking on their "blue tooth", cell phones and texting all of the time. I see them doing this while driving, walking, running and doing this every waking moment of their life. Their head is always down. I will be walking down the mall on my meal break and people will run into me while talking, texting or doing whatever. I want to say "Hello", but they won't hear me.

This is amazing to me. I can remember when we didn't have cell phones, computers or even answering machines. I grew up in a home where we had one phone, a black dial up phone. Can you imagine? We had one black and white TV with 3 or 4 channels, and we had to get up to change the channel. No remote, just a dial that we had to turn. And guess what? My family and I watched TV together. Didn't I have a great childhood?

I honestly miss those days.

I always have my head up, I'm always looking for Jodie.

Yesterday at the mall a lady was going down the escalator and fell. I don't think she was on a cell phone, but it made me think about it. I use to ride down the escalator reading my messages on my phone. I won't do that again!

Frost On The Pumpkin?

Ready or not, here it comes. Winter is just around the corner. The nights and mornings are getting colder each and everyday. Cold weather means more shoppers shopping in the mall. Yep, people are Christmas shopping already.

The weekends here at the campground have been very busy. The haunted house is doing well. We have one more weekend to go for all of the Halloween fun.

I love coming home to the smell of campfires. This weather is perfect for sitting around a warm campfire and relaxing.

Today we have arts and crafts, pumpkin carving, the Halloween play house, a parade, trick or treating and many more fun activities.

The Cry of the Ghetto!

WOW what an eye opener!

Yesterday I had a training class in downtown Baltimore MD. I rode with my supervisor, Erin and my co-worker Natalie. Erin did the driving. It took over two hours for us to drive from Hagerstown to JC Penney's at the Eastpoint Mall.

We had a training class on Phase 11 and Chris Madden window treatments. I did learn some interesting things. Phase 11 and Chris Madden are some of the brands we use for our custom orders.

Downtown Baltimore is not a nice place to drive through. We felt it necessary to lock our car doors.

Driving and looking at these streets made me think of Mexico. We lived in Mexico for 3 years in a very poor town. Baltimore is starting to look like that. People on the streets and trash everywhere. The only difference is, the streets in Mexico where dirt and the ones in Baltimore are paved. Everything else looks pretty much the same.

I remember my Grandmother telling me stories about Baltimore. When she was a young mother, Baltimore was a very safe, beautiful, clean town.

Wow, things have changed drastically.

There are some nice places in Baltimore, the Inner Harbor is gorgeous and Baltimore is home of the Baltimore Ravens and the Baltimore Orioles!

When I see places like this, it makes me sad. Seeing things like this also makes me feel so very blessed. Life is good for me, I have a great partner, beautiful children, the best family in the world, fantastic friends, a wonderful dog, a sweet cat and live in an awesome motor home.

Autumn Is A Second Spring When Every Leaf Is A Flower!

I just love the fall, I love everything about it. The trees are starting to show off their beautiful colors, the leaves are dancing in the street and the sun is out! The days are nice and warm and the nights are crisp and cool.

It is only Tuesday and so far the week has started out pleasant.

Jodie and I are having fun walking in the leaves and Lily is spending some time outside in the afternoons chasing the leaves as they dance by her.

We have two more weekends of Halloween here at the campground. November will be here before we know it.

YIKES, that means the holidays are just around the corner.

Working in the retail business is sort of stressful during the holidays.

I will see Christmas trees, lights, presents, decorations, wrapping paper, glitter, little elves, little santa's and gifts each and every day for over two months.

I will hear crying children wanting everything that they see, I will hear angry parents screaming at the crying children. I will hear complaining customers. I will hear Christmas music every single day for over 2 months.

At least I'll be busy and the time will fly.

Here Comes The Bride!

This past Saturday we we attended TC's granddaughter's wedding.

Courtney and Reed had a beautiful wedding at the St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Annapolis, Maryland

TC was happy to see his oldest granddaughter starting her new life with Reed.

Today, Michelle and Scott (my daughter and her boy friend) came up to visit and take me to my birthday surprise. (my birthday was last week) We got in the car and drove to Harpers Ferry West Virginia to a place called Rivers Riders to go Zip lining.

What a blast. I was a tad bit scared at first. Just kidding, I was scared big time.

During the Zip Line/Canopy Tour, you fly high above the ground along 7 various length ziplines from 200 to almost 800 feet in length. Mixed in are several belayed ladder climbs and two bridges. The tour is a 3 hour experience. Fly through the air, as you immerse yourself in the pristine beauty of their historic waterfront location.

At The Heart Of Healing!

It all began following World War II, when a small group of local and civic business leaders had the wisdom to recognize the need for a community hospital—and the determination to bring their vision to reality. You know a community is truly blessed when it has among its citizens people like this who are committed to a goal and have the energy and leadership skills necessary to affect positive change.

As a result of their efforts, what was then Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster MD opened its doors for the first time on October 1, 1961. Inside, a growing community of patients and visitors found a medical facility of tremendous promise.

I was the first patient discharged from the hospital. I had a tonsillectomy.

The other day when I went to visit my mom, she showed me the new book that the hospital put out for their 50th anniversary. There is a picture of me in the book!

I don't remember too much about my first hospital stay, but I do remember eating a lot of ice cream.

As The Purse Is Emptied, The Heart Is Filled!

Yesterday I went to visit my mom and we went shopping! TC's granddaughter is getting married and I needed something beautiful to wear.

Mom and I went to the mall and shopped at Boscovs. I found the perfect outfit and a wonderful pair of shoes to go with it.

After shopping mom took Robin, my sister and I out to lunch. This was a late birthday lunch for me. Robin and I had an awesome eggplant parmesan panini sandwich and mom had an order of calamari.

It's my birthday lunch..........

Last evening we had a great time with our neighbors, Bill and Wanda sitting buy the campfire drinking wine. Bill and Wanda were going to be our neighbors for the winter, but they have to leave this week. Bill had a job in Fredrick and was laid off. We were looking forward to having company for the winter. We will miss them.

I love the fall, it is my favorite time of the year. This weekend the sun finally showed his face and the weather has been fabulous!

The days have been nice and warm like summer days and the nights have been cool and crispy, great sleeping weather.

The campground is busy with all of our Halloween activities and our famous haunted house, The Creekside Manor.

What a great place to be on Halloween weekends! We have pumpkin carving, trick or treat, crafts, site decorating and so much more.

With the nice weather, people are not coming to JC Penney's to shop. I would imagine since we have had tons of nasty rainy weekends, most people are staying home getting caught up on yard work and enjoying this nice weather.

We have three more Halloween weekends to go and I hope everyone of them is as nice as this weekend.

Ready Or Not Here He Comes!

We simply can't avoid it, Mr. Winter is on his way.

We are busy getting ready for him. TC and I each have a tote under our motor home in our storage compartment filled with winter coats, sweaters, boots and more. Today I will start switching out our summer clothes for the winter clothes. I hate doing this chore.

Looking at this sunflower will make me feel warm and happy...........

TC will do some insulating inside the motor home, fill up our propane tanks and make sure everything is tip top shape.

I have already put on our electric mattress pad. We turn on the electric mattress pad about an hour before we go to bed and it is so nice and toasty.

Last winter wasn't so bad, it was long but not that bad.

I wonder with all of this rain we had this summer, does this mean we will have a ton of snow?

A Very Strange Weekend!

This weekend was very cold, damp and dreary.
It was extremely hard to get motivated.

I can't believe how much rain we are getting. I wonder if all of this rain will ruin our fall colors?

I think I'm growing gills. I feel like a fish...

We did have a nice weekend here at the campground, despite all of this rain.

We didn't sell a ton of fire wood, but some of our campers did find a way to light a fire. I don't know how they do that.

If It Walks Like A Duck, Quacks Like A Duck, Looks Like A Duck.........

....... it must be a duck!

On Mother's Day weekend, a close friend of John and Judi (the campground owners) gave us three little ducks. The ducks decided to make the goldfish pond their home. Of course they ate the goldfish.

Our campers love the ducks. The ducks like to visit with all of the campers. We sell duck food in the camp store and these ducks are well fed. I named these ducks Huey, Dewey and Louie. Huey, Dewey and Louie are very entertaining and very tame.

For some reason, these ducks like me, they like me a lot. When Jodie and I go walking, the ducks follow. They don't fear Jodie one bit, and Jodie only gets mad when I feed them.

I've tried to get them down to the creek, but they always come back to the campground with us.

There is one huge problem with the cute little ducks, they like to camp out by my doorstep. Every morning at about 8:00 they quack and quack to get me out the door, but the biggest problem of all is the lovey presents that they leave behind!

DUCK POOP!

YUCK!

I guess if you're going to eat you're going to poop!

I try to discourage the ducks from camping on my doorstep, but they always come back. I'm thinking about buying some pinwheels or something to put around, maybe that will keep them out. I might have to fence in my site.

Any ideas?

They Walk Among Us!

The other day when I was working at JC Penney's, I had a nice couple shopping for blinds and drapes. They were happy with our selection. They were buying a new house and wanted good quality drapes and blinds for every window.
I was so excited to help them. They seemed like nice people. I work a commission job and this sale would mean a lot to me. I stayed and hour and a half late to help them. They were buying from the store and ordering on line at JCP.com. I had both orders on both of my computers and showed them the final total. The gentleman was a little bit shocked about the price, I offered him a $20.00 coupon for both orders. These coupons state that it is good for an (one order per customer) order over $80.00. I told him since he was ordering two orders, I could ring one up for him and one up for his wife. That would be using two coupons, pretty good deal wouldn't you think?
He told me that he wanted to break each order up a half of a dozen ways. We are not allowed to to do that. It is against company policy. He asked me to call the manger. I did and the manger told him we could not do that. He told me I was going to lose a great sale because of this. I told him I would rather lose this sale than my job.

On a funny note:
TC and I were eating lunch today and his cell phone rang a funny tune. He said what "kind of ring is that"? I told him it sounded like he received a text message. TC is not a text messaging kind of a guy.
I showed him how to view his messages, I went over it several times so he could see how it was done. Finally he did it and his phone showed him the new text message. I said "look TC this is your text message". You know what he did next?
He looked at the text message and put the phone to his ear and said "HELLO".

Is that funny or what? I laughed so hard I almost wet my pants!

My mom and dad are so funny, dad likes to talk to his text messages
and mom has to cross her legs when she laughs!

Those nasty, smelling, stink bugs are back!

We are really surprised that they came back so late in the season. Maybe all of this rain and flooding that we had, has kept them at bay.
So far it doesn't seem to be as many of them compared to last year.
These bugs don't bite or sting you, they don't eat your food, they are just annoying, nasty, stinky bugs!

Our cat, Lily thinks it's great sport, trying to catch and dismantle these bugs.

We had a pretty good weekend here at the campground. Saturday night was the half price, opening night for the Creekside Manor Haunted House.

We had a huge turn out. This Halloween will be a scary one for sure. We haven't be through the haunted house this year, but we will go and see what it all about.

The Best Medicine Of Life Is To Have True Faithful Friends!

I had yesterday off and decided to spend the day with my best friends: my mom and my sister!

Mom, Robin and I always have the best time when we hang out. Mom and I went to the mall and did some serious shopping. Robin came and had lunch with us.

After lunch we walked around and found this Halloween shop. We went in and had great fun with all of the spooky things.

It's Raining Leaves!

Tis the season for raking leaves. Raking and blowing leaves here in the fall is a full time job. The trees are just starting to show their beautiful fall colors.

The haunted house will be open every weekend in October.
Every year the creekside manor has a different story line. This year the theme is "Keeping the wolves at bay".

There's A Fungus Among Us!

Yesterday, Jodie and I were out walking and taking some pictures. TC saw us and told me about this strange thing growing on a tree. Jodie and I thought we would walk down to the creek and see what it was all about.

This is what we saw:

This fungus looked like coral, but is was soft like a mushroom.

I was dressed in my khaki slacks and a nice blouse, ready to go to work at JC Penney's. I wanted to get a close up picture and decided to step down to get a closer view. Low and behold, I fell down in the mud. OUCH!

I was so embarrassed walking back to my motor home with mud on the back of my khaki pants. It looked like I pooped myself.

Was it worth it, by gosh it was. These pictures turned out great.

After two washings and many stain removers, my pants came out just like new. My butt has a huge bruise on it and it hurts to sit down. It's a good thing I have some padding on this old butt, or I might have broken a bone or two.

Whew, what a day, I fell on my butt and the Baltimore Ravens lost!

Christmas Trees And Spooky Things!

Here at the campground we are getting ready for Halloween. Halloween is our busiest season. Our October weekends are booked! Most of these campers will book their October weekend a year in advance.

At JC Penney's we are getting ready for Christmas. The Christmas trees and decorations are being put out this week. I hope they won't start playing Christmas music this early. By the time Christmas gets here, I will have had enough.

Today is football Sunday. The Baltimore Ravens are playing the Tennessee Titans. TC is excited about watching the game.
I love football Sundays. We have a pot of beef stew simmering, some homemade rolls and a campfire ready to light.

A Change In The Weather!

Just the other day, we had the AC on. This morning we had the heat on. We woke up to a cool crisp 49 degrees. Good grief, where did summer go?

We have a busy weekend here at the campground. We have some groups camping with us. This cool weather is great for selling firewood.

I'm not sure about this cool weather....

I keep telling the stupid cat that everything will be OK

After work we relaxed by the campfire, had a glass of red wine and talked.

I can't believe September is almost over. Wow, where did this month go? Soon the ghosts and goblins will be coming out. Halloween is just around the corner.....

People Are Crazy!

Sometimes I don't understand how people can be so ridiculous. Some of the people that I come into contact with are just nuts!

I had a customer tonight that was just unhappy with everything.

She wanted to buy some drapes that she bought last weekend for the same price. They were on a door buster sale last weekend and she used a 15% coupon. She told me that if she could not buy these drapes for that same price she would bring the ones that she bought last weekend back. I had to ask a manager if I could sell them to her for the same price, the manger said it would be OK this time. She came in and I sold her the drapes for the same price. She also bought a blind. I put a paid sticker on her blind and put her drapes in a bag. She asked me if I could put her blind in the bag and I said, I would be happy to, but the package the blind was in would tear the bag. She said OK and left.

Low and behold the same lady came back. She wanted to buy more blinds. She was talking on her cell phone and looking at the blinds. My supervisor and I were talking just a few feet away and this lady came to us and said, if you have something to say about me tell me to my face.

Whoa Nelly, where did that come from? This was begining to feel like a 3 ring circus.

She told my supervisor that I was a very rude person and she should get rid of me. She continued to tell my supervisor that I refused to put her blind in a bag.

This lady seems to be mad at the world. I guess I should feel sorry for her.......

Thank God, most of the people I come into contact with are wonderful people!
